More bad news for Liechtenstein following the recent election of a man whose name sounds like sneeze. Prince Max is now being investigated by German authorities about tax evasion. The thing is, this came about after a whistle-blower at the LGT bank flogged confidential data to the German secret service – and Prince Max is the Chief Executive of the LGT bank. The bank’s slogan is Invest Like A Prince. Whoops.
I’m just back from a couple of days in Galway; a fine city and no mistake, containing a fine bookshop in the form of Charlie Byrne’s in which I spent an inordinate amount of time. The city has a terrific museum which contains an impressive display about John F Kennedy’s visit to Galway a few months before he was killed. There’s a comment book nearby, in which various American tourists have penned their memories of JFK, including one in a child’s careful tongue-sticking-out-of-side-of-mouth best handwriting which says “all I know is that he was the youngest ever president and he was assinated”.
