The offical home of Elvis Presley on the internet is probably your best first port of call, but you can also track down some of the stars of In Search of Elvis. There's Schmelvis of course, and Elvis Priestley in Canada, while you can nip over to Uzbekistan to find Karen Gafurdjanov. For all you need to know about the world's greatest performer of Elvis songs in Latin there's Doctor Ammondt, while for all you need to know about Elvis's German experience, try the Bad Nauheim Elvis Fan Club. Finally, there's a nice little film about the Elvis Inn in Israel, where my journey ended.
If so inclined you can listen to the shipping forecast and give thanks it's not you out there on the brine. You can, however, get a genuine taste of the shipping forecast by ordering an Arbroath Smokie or two from Scott's Fish as featured in Attention All Shipping. David Taylor's Bellrock Lighthouse website provides everything you could ever need to know. While on the island of Utsira I met the saintly Wenche. I then happened to bump into her on my way to Hanstholm and as a result she's now one of my best friends. Wenche lives in Stavanger. If you see her on the webcams, give her a wave from me. Another fellow traveller, on the Isle of Man this time, is my old friend Jo, who is currently a breakfast DJ in the north-west on Wish FM. Mike the Norwegian speaker has a website here dedicated to his very own Motorcycle Diaries. Artist Linda Sgoluppi has produced a whole bunch of abstract artworks dedicated to the sea areas.
The website of the Liechtensteiner Fussballverband is all in German without many laughs, while Liechtenstein's star player Mario Frick has a rather snazzy website in German and Italian, the great big show-off. If you're interested in visiting Liechtenstein, and you certainly should be, the saintly Martina at the Liechtenstein Tourist Board will attend to your heart's desires. You can keep up with the scribblings of the greatest sportswriter in the world, Ernst Hasler, via the Liechtensteiner Vaterland website.
My good friend Sid Griffin is a fine singer, songwriter, author, former numero uno honcho of the Long Ryders and current big cheese with the Coal Porters Bluegrass Band. Also on the music front, Bap Kennedy is a brilliant singer songwriter who has worked with the likes of Steve Earle, Van Morrison and Pete Doherty. I used to play mandolin with Bap in a previous life.
Other musical favourites include Professor Longhair, Gram Parsons, The Monkees, Nick Lowe, Kings of Leon, Lonnie Johnson, Hot Club of Cowtown, Leon Redbone, The Byrds, Be Good Tanyas, Big Star, 5678s, Laika and the Cosmonauts, Incredibly Strange Film Band.
Another pal of mine is Stevie Morgan, broadcaster, flaneur, novelist, ukelele virtuoso and bon viveur. Stevie was the genial host of the 'The Dugout', a live sports magazine TV programme that was desperate enough to have me on as a weekly pundit.
The greatest football team in the world is of course Charlton Athletic, but I can also be found looking out for the results of Derry City, FC Vaduz, FK Sarajevo, Athletic Bilbao and Montrose
The sporting outfitters of intellectual distinction Philosophy Football have a snazzy website on which you can order their distinguished garments. Which were once, as it happens, packed by me.
I was a founding member of the H.V. Morton Society as I think he's one of the finest travel writers that ever packed a passport and a notebook. However, a new biography points out that he wasn't quite what he seemed. Interesting character, though.
A few travel sites I find invaluable are Lonely Planet, Rough Guides, Expedia, Opodo, Palin's Travels and the Foreign Office travel advice site.
Finally, and probably most importantly, the website of the RNLI. The shipping forecast can give warnings of rough conditions at sea, but it's the lifeboats that go out and save lives. The RNLI is run entirely on voluntary donations, so please give them some money.
